New Frontiers in Cancer Cell and Gene Therapy,
A Celebration of Innovation & Dedication

ACGT's 10th Anniversary honoring Edward Netter

at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, Connecticut

Thank you to all of our supporters who came together at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich April 19th to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy and to honor co-founder Edward Netter.

More than 450 guests at New Frontiers in Cancer Cell & Gene Therapy  mingled with two dozen ACGT scientists who work on the frontlines of cancer research. The event raised $1.4 million; all the money will fund future medical investigators.

Prior to the event, ACGT Scientific Advisory Council members and ACGT Research Fellows held a symposium where they discussed ACGT's cutting-edge research and how ACGT can help bring new therapies to patients. Read more...

4th Annual Greenwich/Stamford Swim
7:30 a.m. at 96 Cummings Point Road, Stamford, CT
Over 200 swimmers teamed up with SWIM ACROSS AMERICA and ACGT in the fight against cancer on Saturday, June 26, 2010. They swam in memory or honor of a loved one.

A Social Bridge in Memory of Sibyl Shirley
The 3rd annual Social Bridge was held at the Women’s Club of Greenwich in memory of the late Sibyl Shirley. Sibyl, a great supporter of ACGT,  inaugurated the afternoon event on the occasion of her 90th birthday. In honor of Sibyl’s commitment to ACGT, many of her friends and former bridge students put foursomes together and enjoyed this fund raiser. 100% of the proceeds raised go to support ACGT medical researchers.

Celebrating Progress: Honoring ACGT Research Scientists
Gala Cocktail Benefit 6:00 PM at the Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT


ACGT honored the outstanding scientific contributions of our Research Fellows and the 16 clinical trials that have resulted from their work.

This was a rare opportunity to mix and mingle with members of our Scientific Advisory Council and our Research Fellows.

Dr. John Nemunaitis
, a member of the ACGT Scientific Advisory Council and Executive Medical Director of Mary Crowley Medical Research Center, Dallas, Texas, articulated the urgent need for increased trials delivering the medical outcomes cell and gene therapy can provide.

Dr. Robert Vonderheide, Associate Professor of Medicine, Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute, University of Pennsylvania, ACGT Research Fellow presented the latest promising results of his work with canines suffering from lymphoma.

Other pre-eminent ACGT Research Fellows and members of ACGT Scientific Advisory Council were available to meet and talk informally at the reception.

On January 28, 2010 at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT, Dr. Robert Martuza, Chief of Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and William and Elizabeth Sweet Professor of Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School – as well as ACGT Scientific Advisory Council member –moderated a program entitled, Brain Cancer: Searching for a Breakthrough with Gene and Cell Therapy.

In addition to Dr. Martuza, two ACGT Research Fellows involved in brain cancer projects participated: Miguel Sena-Esteves, Ph.D, Associate Professor Department of Neurology and Gene Therapy Center, University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Antonio E. Chiocca, M.D.,Ph.D, Chairman, Department of Neurological Surgery, Ohio State University Research Foundation.

The panel discussion was led by Dr. Martuza, with each participant reflecting on his specific work, the challenges, successes, progress, and future plans. The 2 hour program included a question and answer session.

Swim Across America Greenwich To Stamford Swim Makes A Big Splash In The Fight Against Cancer

Sunshine Saturday morning June 27th after a torrential thunder storm Friday evening provided incredible encouragement to the swimmers at our 3rd annual Swim from Greenwich to Stamford. More than 170 swimmers, over 50 boaters and kayakers, and many land volunteers and spectators appeared on schedule. All were cheered or cheering at the finish line where Long Island Sound meets the lawn of the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy.
