Dr. Savio Woo is dedicated to a pursuit of fundamental science and technology development in gene and cell therapy, and to translate the laboratory advances into direct patient benefit. Dr. Woo is an internationally recognized expert in molecular human genetics and gene therapy.

Dr. Woo received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1971 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He joined the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, becoming Professor of Cell Biology (1984-1996) and the founding Director of its Center for Gene Therapy (1991-1995). He joined the faculty at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1996.

Dr. Woo has held many prominent positions including Chairman of an NIH Study Section on Gene Therapy Vector Development and as President (1999-2000) of the American Society for Gene Therapy. Dr. Woo has published over 350 articles, reviews and book chapters.
