Dr. Thomas J. Wickham has devoted his scientific career to developing targeted gene therapy vectors.

From 1993-2004 Dr. Wickham was Senior Director of Preclinical Sciences at GenVec, Inc. where he pioneered the development of targeted gene therapy vectors for cancer and helped guide the preclinical development of gene therapy drugs for cancer and cardiovascular disease.

His research team's mission was to develop a gene targeting platform technology to overcome key limitations of current gene therapy vectors by increasing their efficiency, specificity and ability to be delivered systemically.

In early 2004 Dr. Wickham joined EMD Lexigen, a subsidiary of Merck KGaA, to direct early phase non-clinical development of cancer drugs built around EMD Lexigen's platform technology.

Previously, Dr. Wickham received his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and his Ph.D. from Cornell University in Biochemical Engineering. He later did post-doctoral work in the immunology department at The Scripps Research Institute.
