About ACGT
Founder's Message

Medical research operates more as a matrix than a continuum, with many simultaneous inter-related concepts and constructs. Thus, medical progress does not follow a straight path.

In order to see progress, we must nurture discovery and promote perseverance. This is what we do at ACGT.

The invention and perfection of new treatments for cancer has been our target since we founded the Alliance in 2001. We have never wavered from our belief that molecular medicine is the new paradigm to treat disease.

Every day, research moves successfully from the laboratory to clinical translation, and we believe that gene therapies will soon be part of the arsenal of treatment for cancers of all types.

In just seven years, we have awarded more than $18.8 Million to fund 31 research projects.

  • Seven of our funded projects are moving now into clinical translation.
  • We have facilitated critical dialogue with the best minds in the field and cultivated greater communications between investigators around the country.
  • We have happily seen the National Cancer Institute report a successful cancer gene therapy trial for melanoma, which will hopefully reinvigorate their commitment to funding future trials.
  • We have engendered support from a broader array of donors and organizations.
  • We have committed ourselves to devoting more of our grant awards to clinical translation, in the hopes of encouraging investigators to move forward more rapidly.

Do we have a cure yet? No. However, progress has been made, and we have firmly positioned this organization to continue to be the driving force for progress in the future.

We welcome support and participation by research institutions, investigators, medical foundations, health organizations, and donors who share our belief in cancer gene therapies. A new way to treat cancer is not only possible, it is imperative.
